February 2016
Dear parent,
We just finished the placement test last week. The placement should be ready when we return to school after the winter break. I’ll talk to each student privately discussing his/her plan for next year and send a comprehensive report back to home afterwards.
Besides the placement test, G8 students have created their own weather report video for the oral assessment for the weather chapter. Most of the students have fun trying the Green Screen app and iMovie for this project. They also made an independent mini research on Chinese characters and radicals this week. This is a nice break for them to have an overview on the study of Chinese characters.
Besides the placement test, students were excited about the Chinese New Year and related activities. Students did a great job at the New Year Celebration at Shrewsbury High School on January 28th. You can watch their performance with the following links: https://goo.gl/DAUfuE

There will be another exciting event coming up for Chinese students! “Under the Chinese Lanterns”! A night full of crafts and fun entertainment for kids hosted by the National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS)! NCHS is hosting a carnivalesque fundraiser at Sherwood Middle School on Friday March 31st from 6-9 PM. The admission is $5 per person ($3 for student performer) and allows each individual access to Chinese cuisine, art, music, and games at the Sherwood Gymnasium. Come watch students from grades 6-12 perform little skits and dances to show off what we have learned this year. Please come and experience a fun night filled with Chinese culture with your friends and family.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and concerns regarding your student’s Chinese study.
Sincerely,
ChinHuei Yeh
