October 2016
Dear Parents,
Nihao!
For the past month, the 8th grade Chinese students have learned about making phone calls, inviting friends to do something together, and leaving telephone messages. Students have also learned how to leave a note to someone who is not home. Writing a Chinese email is required for this unit as well. We are currently learning about going to a restaurant with friends and family members. For the assessment, students will write a journal entry explaining how to order healthy meals for family members under their budget. This is a comprehensive project connecting Chinese, Health and Math. I am looking forward to reading their creative writing soon.
As you know, Chinese students will be assessed on listening, speaking, reading and writing test at the end of each chapter. Students will receive their test results when the test complete. Then, we will look at the exam in depth in class. All of the students have to complete a reflection on their exam summary sheets and bring the yellow sheet home and discuss the result with you. We’ll do this procedure every chapter. Please spend some time with your child on the reflection so that he/she can do better for the next time.
For the parent conference on November 8th, I’ll be available to meet you at Sherwood Middle School in room 263. Many parents have scheduled a slot for that day. Please feel free to contact me if you haven’t done so or you need to schedule on a different day. I look forward to talking with you regarding your child’s progress.
Respectfully,
